Bottom line

Diet Direct provides healthy meal replacements at fixed low prices, so you won’t have to worry about how you’re going to eat healthily or what eating healthy is going to do to your budget. By providing a wide range of protein-rich meal shakes, bars, and snacks at the same price point, Diet Direct won’t penalize you for your taste. They want to make sure you’re eating the right foods for you (whatever that looks like) and are willing to work with a wide variety of diets. Plus, their service costs less than a lot of their competitors, with friendly customer service to boot. Free shipping doesn’t kick in until $69 and can take a little while to arrive, but it’s a small price to pay for low-cost, high-reward products.

Why you can trust us

Over the past two decades, Innerbody Research has helped tens of millions of readers like you make more informed decisions to live healthier lives. We extensively test each health service we review.

Our team has spent more than 77 hours over the course of months testing and researching Diet Direct and its close competitors in order to give you an unbiased exploration of your online nutrition options, free of marketing jargon or gimmicks. Through a thorough and deliberate approach to every product we encounter, we evaluate services based on adherence to quality, the latest medical evidence and health standards, and a simple question: would we buy the product or service ourselves if it weren’t part of our job, and would we recommend it to family and friends?

Additionally, this review of Diet Direct, like all health-related content on this website, was thoroughly vetted by one or more members of our Medical Review Board for accuracy.

What is Diet Direct?

Diet Direct is a diet brand that works to take the thinking out of dieting by providing meal plans. They sell their meal plan ingredients, snacks, and supplements separately for those who want to add to their current diet rather than scrap it and start over. Their products are notoriously high protein, low fat, and low calorie for a filling, healthy diet that tastes good.

Their online marketplace sells Diet Direct’s home brands, as well as a handful of partner products to round out your daily diet.

Diet plans

Diet Direct’s main product is their WonderSlim Diet Plan, available in three different sizes (basic, core, and premium). Each of the three plan options comes in multiple week setups:

  • One week (non-gendered)
  • Two weeks
  • Four weeks
  • Eight weeks
  • Twelve weeks

All of the plans, with the exception of one-week trials, are available in versions for both men and women. These plans are separated not because of flavor differences or needing to feel secure in your masculinity, but because there are different caloric intake needs depending on your hormone-driven metabolism.

Basic, core, and premium plans don’t just differ in name and price, but in the amount of food that Diet Direct will send to you.

  • Basic ($1.95/meal to $1.34/meal). Three meal replacement shake boxes and one snack pack per week.
  • Core ($1.85/meal to $1.31/meal). Three meal replacement shake boxes, one lunch kit, and one snack pack per week.
  • Premium ($1.74/meal to $1.20/meal). Three meal replacement shake boxes, one lunch kit, one dessert, one snack pack, and one fiber supplement per week.

You can customize each kit you get to your own desires and cravings. Fueled by chocolate one week and cheddar cheese the next? Diet Direct has your back in their wide catalog and easy-to-use menu.

The diets that Diet Direct offers are conscious of our individual dietary needs and can be tailored to a variety of lifestyles. Specifically, Diet Direct lists:

  • High protein
  • Low carb
  • Keto-friendly
  • Low fat
  • No gluten-containing ingredients
  • Bariatric
  • Diabetic-friendly
  • Low sodium
  • Vegetarian
  • Lactose-free
  • Kosher
  • Aspartame-free

If you need a diabetic-friendly plan, note that you’ll need to purchase a specialty premium diet plan rather than substituting foods and ingredients like the others. There are no diabetic-friendly plans specifically designed at lower levels.

How much does Diet Direct cost?

All of Diet Direct’s WonderSlim products cost the same amount: $15.99. No matter if you’re buying vanilla meal replacement shakes, double chocolate protein cakes, or pretzels, you can expect to pay $15.99 for a box.

Even things outside of their normal product lines stay within a tight financial window. Snackergy PRO POP popcorn, for example, costs $14.99 for a box of five bags; vitamins and supplements vary from $4.99 to $29.99, with most month-supply bottles sitting between $5.99 and $15.99.

When products are on sale, they almost always drop to $10.49.

Bundles and cases

If you aren’t ready for – or interested in – a meal plan, you can still take advantage of Diet Direct’s low prices and steady nutrition. When you order from the site, you can bundle or purchase your foods in cases as long as it’s a house brand:

  • WonderSlim
  • Bariatric Choice
  • BariWise
  • Snackergy
  • WonderFit
  • WonderVites

Bundles provide extra discounts the more products you order:

  • 5% off three or more products
  • 10% off six or more products
  • 20% off 12 or more products
  • 30% off 24 or more products
  • 35% off 48 or more products

Just be sure to add the coupon “BUNDLE” to your cart before checking out. Likewise, if you know you can’t get enough of their lemon meringue snack bar, you can order a case. The options for bulk purchases in cases are much slimmer – there are only 26 different options including meal shakes, protein bars, and partner-brand popcorn – but the savings are much greater at a consistent 35% for house brands.

In a case, you can get:

  • 40 count, 84 count, or 96 count box of meal replacement shakes ($153.99 - $415.99)
  • 18 count, 24 count, or 40 count box of snack bars ($215.99 - $249.99)
  • 36 or 40 count of protein hot chocolate ($374.99 - $415.99)
  • 100 count of dill pickle Protein Krinkles or cheddar Protein Crunchers ($171.99)
  • 24 count of protein pancake and waffle mix ($249.99)

Shipping becomes free at $69, so every meal plan you order is automatically eligible for free shipping. If you’re just picking up a few boxes of snacks and don’t meet that threshold, shipping costs a flat rate of $7.99.

Diet Direct processes their orders within two business days and gets them to your front door through FedEx Ground delivery in two to seven business days. If you’ll need your products earlier than that, you can choose to have them delivered with FedEx 2 Day or FedEx Overnight for a variable fee.

Currently, Diet Direct only ships to the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii), Puerto Rico, and Canada.

Subscribe & Save program

Know you love a Diet Direct product and want to keep it as a pantry staple? Diet Direct makes it easy to keep yourself well-stocked with their subscribe and save program.

No matter what it is you’re interested in, you can set up a subscription to have the products shipped to you repeatedly. These ship in consistent intervals:

  • 4 weeks
  • 6 weeks
  • 8 weeks
  • 12 weeks

You’ll be charged for each package only when it ships, and Diet Direct will send you an email reminder beforehand in case you’re ready to stop or skip a package. If you’d like more than one product but know that you’ll run out of one much faster than the other, or if you’d like one as a regular special treat, you can sign up for multiple subscriptions at different intervals without penalty.

As recognition for your consistency, you’ll also get 15% off all items in your subscription. If there are any sales that apply to your package, the bigger discount will apply to your order but not both, as unfortunately Diet Direct won’t let you stack coupons.

Is Diet Direct a good value?

We think that Diet Direct is a great value if you’re looking for a meal replacement service or your new favorite low-calorie, high-protein snack bar. Diet Direct can provide enormous help to those who shiver at the thought of working through the complexities of meal planning and dieting. This service takes the work out of meal prep for you, providing multiple healthy replacements from one or two meals to a full six-meal day depending on how much you’re willing to spend. These replacement diets are relatively inexpensive compared to all of their competitors: where most of the well-known meal replacement diets cost $100+ a week, Diet Direct comes in closer to $50.

However, Diet Direct’s meal replacement methods can be brutal, so you have to be prepared; shake-based diets are notoriously difficult to adhere to, and though the products are tasty, this approach isn’t an exception to that rule. If you’re aware of that, ready for the inherent challenge, and looking for a solid, inexpensive alternative to time-consuming meal prep, Diet Direct might be a great option.

If you have any tendencies toward disordered eating or a history of eating disorders, please be mindful when using meal replacement services like Diet Direct. They are great about maintaining a healthy amount of calories per day – it’s why they’ve provided separate plans for men and women – but it can be very easy to fall from a meal replacement to getting rid of the meal entirely. While it’s an easy way to cut corners on your weight loss journey, meal replacement diets can also cause weight cycling (also called yo-yo dieting) if you don’t plan ahead for your diet after Diet Direct.

Getting started with Diet Direct

If you’re looking to start your new diet journey, it’s easy to sign up for Diet Direct’s program. Once you decide to commit, you’ll pick out the level (basic, core, or premium) and length of time you want to try Diet Direct’s WonderSlim plan.

You’ll be able to customize your box before paying for it to ensure that you’re getting goods that you’ll actually eat and even enjoy. Each kit includes:

  • A 20-oz shaker bottle
  • A welcome packet
  • One bottle of WonderVites Multi-vitamin (30 count/month)

You’ll also be able to pick out:

Basic plan

Bars and snacks (one per week), meal replacement shakes (three per week)

Core plan

Lunches (one per week), bars and snacks (one per week), meal replacement shakes (three per week)

Premium plan

Breakfasts (one per week), lunches (one per week), bars and snacks (one per week), desserts (one per week), fiber supplements (one per week), meal replacement shakes (one per week)

These will be a vast majority of what you’ll be eating – if not everything – during the diet, so be sure to pick foods you think you’ll enjoy. If the choices are overwhelming, DietDirect offers a “customer favorite” variety that automatically fills your order with their best-selling products.

With everything picked out, you’ll be directed to review and confirm your order before checking out. Fill in your shipping and payment information, and you’ll be off and running in two to seven business days, which in our experience broke down like this:

  • One to two days for order processing
  • One to five business days for shipping

All meal plan orders come with free shipping.

How we evaluate health services and products

At Innerbody Research, we customize our evaluation criteria depending on the type and nature of the health-related service. For Diet Direct and other health services and products, we have five areas that we use for our evaluations, including:

Quality: How well does the company deliver its core service(s) to the customer? For testing services, does the company adhere to the latest and most advanced testing technologies and achieve a very high degree of accuracy? For non-testing telehealth services, is the quality of the service high enough that we would recommend it to loved ones without hesitation? If not, why not?

User-friendly: How intuitive and user-friendly is the service? Does the device/program/app/website achieve a good degree of user-friendliness for its customers?

Value: Are you getting your money’s worth? Are there any hidden costs or charges? Does the company offer discounts?

Privacy: If health data is stored, will your data be stored securely? Are payments secure?

Customer support: Particularly in situations where “one size fits all” doesn’t make sense, how well does the company help to make the service ideal for you?
