During your first visit to the Medi-Weightloss clinic near you, your physician performs a comprehensive medical evaluation that includes:

  • EKG
  • Metabolic testing
  • A physical
  • An interview to discuss your medical history, dietary habits, and health goals

Once your doctor has analyzed your medical evaluation, they outline an individualized, three-phase plan for your weight-loss journey. This plan includes:

Phase one: Acute Weight Loss

During the Acute Weight Loss phase, you eat high-protein foods that induce ketosis, a fat-burning process due to reduced carbohydrate intake. Ketosis is the basis for the Keto diet, Atkins diet, and other low-carb weight-loss programs.

This first phase is also calorie-restrictive, with calorie intake varying based on each individual. The caloric intake for our testers during Acute Weight Loss was under 1,000 calories per day from high-protein foods. Some of the foods you’ll likely find on your weekly meal plan during this phase include:

Individuals with a history of eating disorders should avoid Medi-Weightloss unless under the care of a physician, counselor, or therapist. Low-carbohydrate diets are also not recommended for athletes and pregnant or nursing individuals.

Pricing

The cost of Medi-Weightloss programs varies by location and weight-loss needs. Many clinics accept FSA, HSA, and health insurance payments (see below), which may assist with the financial investment.

In general, you can expect to spend between $275 and $325 for your initial consultation. After this, your weekly check-ins will cost $75-80 per visit. If you choose to purchase nutritional injections, supplements, medications, or menu items, this adds to the overall cost.

Is Medi-Weightloss a good value?

Going on a standard Keto or Atkins diet without physician-assisted support is far less expensive than enrolling in Medi-Weightloss. Still, this program is invaluable for people who need the support of a medical professional during their weight-loss journey.

There are very few physician-assisted weight-loss programs like Medi-Weightloss. OPTIFAST costs about $150 per week, while Medi-Weightloss costs less, about $80 per week. However, OPTIFAST includes meal replacements in their cost, and Medi-Weightloss doesn’t. By purchasing your own food with Medi-Weightloss, you may spend around the same amount or more. But, you have the freedom to create your own grocery list under your provider’s guidelines.

HSA, FSA, and health insurance

Many Medi-Weightloss locations now accept insurance payments and offer in-network providers with major carriers. While supplements, medications, and injections may not be covered, your initial consultation and office visits could be.
