A bipolar cell is a specialized nerve cell such as is found in the optic nerve of the eye. The cell body of a bipolar neuron has only two nerve networks, one coming from each end. Although these networks have similar structural characteristics, one serves as an axon and the other as a dendrite. Such cells are found in specialized parts of the eyes, nose and ears.
