The middle temporal gyrus is one of three such gyri that subdivide the temporal lobe of the brain. They are simply the superior, the middle, and the inferior temporal gyri. The sulci between the superior and middle temporal gyri are the superior temporal sulcus, and the sulcus between the middle and the inferior temporal gyri is now called the inferior temporal sulcus.
