What do I Need to do to Prepare for the Test and What do the Results Mean?

Triglycerides

Type of fat in your body. If you eat more calories than you need, the extra calories are changed into triglycerides. These triglycerides are stored in your fat cells for later use. When your body needs energy, triglycerides are released into your bloodstream to provide fuel for your muscles to work. If you eat more calories than you burn off, especially calories from carbohydrates and fats, you may get high triglyceride levels in your blood. High triglycerides may put you at greater risk for a heart attack or stroke.

What do I Need to do to Prepare for the Test?

You may need to fast (not food or drink) for 12 hours before your blood is drawn. Your health care provider will let you know if you need to fast and if there are any special instructions to follow.

What do the Results Mean?

  • Normal Range (Blood Spot): <150 mg/dl
  • Borderline High: 150-199 mg/dl
  • High: 200-499 mg/dl
  • Very High: >500 mg/dl

Higher than normal triglyceride levels may put you at risk for heart disease. To reduce your levels and lower your risk, your health care provider may recommend lifestyle changes and/or prescribe medicines.

Cholesterol

A waxy, fat-like substance that’s found in all the cells in your body. Your liver makes cholesterol, and it is also in some foods, such as meat and dairy products. Your body needs some cholesterol to work properly. But if you have too much cholesterol in your blood, you have a higher risk of coronary artery disease.

HDL

Stands for high-density lipoproteins. It is called the “good” cholesterol because it carries cholesterol from other parts of your body back to your liver. Your liver then removes the cholesterol from your body.

LDL

Stands for low-density lipoproteins. It is called the “bad” cholesterol because a high LDL level leads to a buildup of cholesterol in your arteries.

I was surprised that someone could get a reliable cholesterol test from dried blood, but I am sure this test was valid because my scores closely resembled recent cholesterol tests I have taken with my regular physician. I was just checking to see how my current diet was affecting my cholesterol. In that regard, your test was priceless.
Just as a marketing thing, I was amazed at how difficult your company made it for me to purchase the kit and perform the test. I had to take my first kit back to Walgreens because nobody there knew how to “register” your kit. I had multiple problems in figuring out how to properly perform the test. Talking to a human on the phone would have solved many problems, instead of talking to someone online.
