Palatine Tonsils

The palatine tonsils (what the term "tonsils" generally refer to) are two lymphatic tissue masses. There is one located on each side of the oral pharynx, in the back of the throat. The funciton of palatine tonsils has het to be discovered, however they are part of the immune system and are thought to assist in defending the body from respiratory infections.
